Trips I Hope Joe Never Takes

My pastor, Joe Coffey, likes to do big things. Like climb Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the Lower 48. It makes me nervous. And it makes me pray. I hope he never hears about that mountain over in Nepal where they wear oxygen tanks because the summit is almost in outer space.

Last night I woke up in a cold sweat. In my nightmare, Joe was watching this video, licking his chops, holding a cardboard sign on which he had written something in his almost illegible handwriting. I leaned in close so I could read it and I shuddered. It said, “You haven’t lived until you’ve been up close and personal with a live volcano.”

I recently re-committed myself to pray for Joe every day. If Joe is your pastor, or if you like his books, why not join me?

One cannot live in fear. (Or, to put it another way, an environment of fear is not conducive to life.)

This immediately brought to mind the old movie “Joe Versus the Volcano!”
